Tiger Woods holds more wins at the Memorial Tournament that any other golfers. Can he stop his losing skid and add a fifth title to his resume?
On Thursday, official play will begin in the 2012 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. The tournament was founded in 1976 by Jack Nicklaus and every year not only crowns a champion, but also selects and honors an individual who has made significant contributions to the game of golf. This year's honoree will be Tom Watson.
The four-round tournament runs from Thursday to Sunday and will feature a course with a par of 72 in each round. The winner's share of the purse is $1.116 million. Steve Stricker won last year's event by shooting a cumulative 16-under and will be back this year to defend his title. Tiger Woods holds the record for most wins in the tournament, having taken home the title four times, most recently in 2009. Woods will be competing in this year's event as well and hoping to turn around his slumping play, which has bordered on the disastrous of late.
Word No. 1 ranked golfer Luke Donald will be competing in the tournament, as will the surging Rickie Fowler. Other notables in the tournament include Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy and Bubba Watson.
