Rory McIlroy lands the top spot in this week's World Golf Rankings after finishing in second place at the 2012 Wells Fargo Championship over the weekend. Tiger Woods remains in seventh place after missing the cut at Quail Hollow.

Rory McIlroy took over the No. 1 spot on top of the World Golf Rankings this week after coming in second at the 2012 Wells Fargo Championship over the weekend. McIlroy fell to Rickie Fowler in a sudden death playoff, but the high finish was good enough to edge him past last week's No. 1 Luke Donald, who didn't play in the tournament.

Fowler earned his first PGA Tour victory and shot up the rankings as a result. The 23-year-old landed at the No. 24 spot, just passing the likes of Brandt Snedeker, Peter Hanson and Ian Poulter. The win tripled Fowler's earnings on the year. He has played in 12 events this season, making 10 cuts.

Tiger Woods is still in seventh place despite missing the cut at Quail Hollow. Check out the Top 10 below:

1) Rory McIlroy
2) Luke Donald
3) Lee Westwood
4) Bubba Watson
5) Hunter Mahan
6) Steve Stricker
7) Tiger Woods
8) Martin Kraymer
9) Webb Simpson
10) Phil Mickelson
