Memorial Open 2012: Rory Sabbatini Leads Through 2 Rounds

Stay connected with SB Nation

Golf's second-most famous Rory had a great day Friday to put himself in first place in Dublin, Ohio: Rory Sabbatini shot a 3-under 69 on the day to take a one-stroke lead at the Memorial Open.

Sabbatini, dressed in an ... interesting ensemble, featuring his signature wide-brimmed hat, bright green pants and green-and-yellow shoes -- South African colors, I guess? -- was 1-over on the day after six holes, but really turned on the heat as the day went on. He had four birdies in six holes to claim sole possession of the lead at 6-under. He had a chance to put himself two clear of the field on 18 after a brilliant approach shot rolled back to within about four feet, but he missed the virtual tap-in.

Sabbatini will be pleased with his one-stroke lead - he hasn't won a PGA Tour event in over a year, since last year's Honda Classic. That said, there's a lot of golf ahead and three golfers only a stroke back at 5-under, including Tiger Woods.
