The 112th U.S. Open Championship features eight amateur players this year. Beau Hossler is low-man on the list after a first round 70.

With the first round of the 2012 U.S. Open winding down on Thursday, here is a rundown of how the amateurs in the field fared throughout the day:

Patrick Cantlay - Perhaps the most well-known amateur on the course (and the only amateur who didn't have to qualify to play), Cantlay stumbled his way to a 6-over score of 76 in his first round.

Beau Hossler - The low-amateur of the first round (70) was the surprising Hossler, who at 17 is also one of the youngest players in the field. This is his second consecutive Open appearance.

Nick Sherwood - Sherwood, 21, is out of Oregon State and is playing his first USGA Championship. His first round of 78 will force him to play well on Saturday to make the weekend.

Jordan Spieth - After helping his Texas Longhorns win the National Championship on June 3, Spieth played in a sectional the next day to qualify for the Open. Today, he fired a 74 and is very much in contention early.

Cameron Wilson - The 19 year old from Rowayton, Conn. fought his way to a 77 in his opening round.

Andy Zhang - It took an impressive birdie on the final hole to help the 14-year old Zhang break 80. Still, a 79 for an 8th-grader is still pretty damn impressive.

Players Still on the Course:

Brooks Koepka - Koepka is struggling a bit this afternoon and is currently on pace to shoot an opening-round 75.

Alberto Sanchez - The other 17-year old in the field, Sanchez is 4-over on his round after 13 holes.
