Sectional qualifying for the 2012 U.S. Open will take place at 11 golf courses across the country Monday.

The 2012 U.S. Open is less than two weeks away, but before golfers can contend for the 2012 title, roughly half the field still needs to qualify. Sectional qualifying will take place Monday with hundreds of golfers across the United States hoping to advance to play in the U.S. Open.

Sectional qualifying will be held at 11 courses across the United States Monday with roughly 60 spots in the U.S. Open up for grabs. More than 9,000 players entered qualifying, but only 550 advanced to sectional qualifying. The USGA already held two international qualifiers.

The sectional qualifying round consists of a one-day 36-hole qualifying round. There are a few slots in the U.S. Open available at each qualifying site. The 2012 U.S. Open will feature 156 players, 76 players have already qualified via an exemption, while another 17 qualified in the two international sectionals. That leaves 63 spots for the 11 United States sectional qualifiers.

Players who qualify will head to San Francisco, California to play in the 112th U.S. Open at The Olympic Club.
