Tiger Woods Alone In First At Memorial Tournament

Stay connected with SB Nation

Thanks to an incredible chip-in from the rough on No. 16, Tiger Woods now leads the Memorial Tournament. Woods, with one hole left to play, is one up on Rory Sabbatini and Andres Romero, who each sit at 7-under for the tournament.

The swing in momentum came on 16, both for Woods and Sabbatini. Tiger faced an incredibly difficult up-and-down first, before burying a chip out of the deep rough.

Sabbatini, playing behind Woods, hit his approach into the par-3 16th left, leaving it in the bunk and also creating a difficult up-and-down for himself. His blast came out of the sand hot, and only stayed on the green because it hit the hole. He ran his par putt past the hole and had to settle for bogey.

Moments later, Woods missed his birdie on 17, settling for a tap-in par and one-stroke lead.
