World Golf Rankings 2012: Rory McIlroy Leads Pack After BMW Championship Win

Rory McIlroy is atop the World Golf Rankings as of Monday, when the latest list was released. The ranking system is built on points, determined by tournament wins throughout a PGA season.

McIlroy recently took home the BMW Championship and currently leads the pack in the FedEx Cup race, with Tiger Woods right behind him. Woods is also ranked second on the World Golf Rankings, but McIlroy has a sizable lead -- his 627.25 points put him almost 300 points over Woods.

Here are the top 10 golfers in the world, according to the rankings. The rankings are based on the average amount of points gained per tournament by the player:

1. Rory McIlroy 12.80
2. Tiger Woods 9.63
3. Luke Donald 9.17
4. Lee Westwood 5.57
5. Adam Scott 6.37
6. Webb Simpson 6.11
7. Jason Dufner 6.08
8. Bubba Watson 6.07
