It may take more than a hole-in-one to propel Steve Stricker into the FedEx Cup finale in two weeks, but his ace on the sixth hole of his second round at the BMW Championship on Friday won’t hurt.
Stricker used a 6-iron to ace the 198-yard par-3 to record the eagle-1 -- his third as a PGA Tour pro (fourth, if you count the one he made on the third hole at TPC Boston during last week’s Deutsche Bank Championship pro-am, which, officially you can’t). Unfortunately, Strick double-bogeyed the next hole, the par-4 seventh and was 4-under for the week and tied for 30th through 11 holes, but well within the top 30 in FedEx Cup points.
The top-30 in the FedEx Cup standings will advance to the Tour Championship that kicks off on September 20 at East Lake.
