The European Tour stops at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship this week, and the two biggest stars in the game will be in attendance. Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, now both under the Nike umbrella, will play together for the first two days in Abu Dhabi. Those two played together in this same event last year, but Rory's profile has increased dramatically, and both developed a friendship last fall while playing together several times.
With No. 1 and No. 2 in the world playing together, there will be plenty of cameras on hand to catch the action. Golf Channel will broadcast the tournament beginning at 10:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday evening, carrying coverage through the night up to 8 a.m. Thursday morning. Golf Channel will then pick up coverage of the second round on Thursday night, with the broadcast running from 11 p.m. ET to 8 a.m ET on Friday morning.
On the weekend, the network will also broadcast the final two rounds in the middle of the night. The third round will come on the air at 1:30 a.m. ET and run to 8 a.m. ET Saturday. They will follow that same schedule for Sunday's final round. Golf Channel and NBC are also set to offer a livestream of the coverage from Abu Dhabi.
Woods and McIlroy are scheduled to tee off in the first round shortly after Golf Channel comes on the air, at 10:40 p.m. ET on Wednesday night. The third player in their group will be former No. 1 in the world Martin Kaymer. In the second round, that group will tee off at 3:05 a.m. ET on Friday, with their round finishing up as the sun comes up in the Eastern United States.
