Presidents Cup 2013: TV coverage for Friday's matches

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Holding just a one-point lead, the US will try to maintain its historic domination over the International side in the Foursomes format on Friday afternoon. Golf Channel will have the coverage.

These team cup competitions have largely become made-for-TV spectacles, but that doesn't make them any less fun to watch. The Presidents Cup, while not nearly as competitive or exciting as the Ryder Cup, is still the rare occasion where you can see these solo artists play together and at least pretend to care about it. It's unique in an individual sport to see this once year, especially from guys like Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson, who are otherwise trying to crush each other on a weekly basis.

The TV coverage of the event will continue on Golf Channel on Friday, with six Foursomes matches relegated to an hour of afternoon tee times at Muirfield Village. Golf Channel and NBC are under the same Comcast umbrella, so just because it's on cable doesn't mean you'll escape the curmudgeonly Johnny Miller. You'll just get a little more Terry Gannon and Frank Nobilo around NBC's Miller and Dan Hicks.

The first tee time will not go off until 1:10 p.m. ET. There are just six matches and the Foursomes format is alternate shot, so a two-man team is hitting just one tee shot and playing just one ball into the hole. That should make things move faster than Four-ball, where both players can hack it around until concessions or halves up on the green. So things will start almost 90 minutes later on Friday, but Golf Channel will still be on the air by 1 p.m. to show almost every shot of every match.

There's currently little chance of rain in the forecast so play should wrap up around the scheduled time of 6 p.m. That's unless the American side is running away it and closing out matches early on the back nine, as they've been known to do to the Internationals in this format.
