Ernie Els jars it from the bunker

Of the 24 players on the course on Thusrday at the Presidents Cup, Ernie Els probably played the worst.

It was a tough day for Els, who is the godfather of the International team and playing in his 8th Presidents Cup. He hit only eight of 18 greens in regulation, while his partner, controversial captain's pick Brendon de Jonge, caught fire and played better than anyone on either side. But de Jonge couldn't carry Els to a win, and captain Nick Price even had to provide a little late consolation to the Big Easy as the two went down the 18th fairway.

But in the alternate shot Foursomes format on Day 2, the Els-de Jonge pairing is the one International duo holding a comfortable lead. The two are 3up thru 9 over Bill Haas and Hunter Mahan. It looked like that margin would be reduced on the 9th green, but Els hit the shot of the day so far to salvage a halved hole and maintain the 3up advantage:
