The likelihood of a restart of Friday Foursomes at the Presidents Cup is dwindling by the minute. What initially looked like a short burst of a storm has turned into a persistent deluge, dumping buckets of water on a Muirfield Village layout that was already soaked.
Beyond the greens, the bunkers, as displayed by this shot from Rex Hoggard, are also a mess:
Of course, the grounds crew at Muirfield doesn't have to prep all 18 greens. They can quickly jump on the holes that are currently being played by one of the six matches out on the course, and then move ahead to clean up the back end of the course.
The rain has let up as 4:30 p.m. approaches in Columbus, but there's probably an hour of work that needs to be done on the course. The first match, between Phil Mickelson/Keegan Bradley and Jason Day/Graham DeLaet is just getting to the back nine. The last match is only through five holes.
So finishing today is going to be tough, even with the alternate-shot format that is the fastest method of play this week. A restart to at least move the matches further along and perhaps finish up one or two may be in play. The radar looks clear for the rest of the afternoon, with sunset coming at 7:09 p.m. in Columbus.
The delay is going to put the PGA Tour and the competition in a tough spot, as Saturday is the one day the Cup doubles up and holds two sessions for near sun-up to sun-down golf. Play was supposed to start at 8 a.m. Saturday morning, but they'll almost certainly still be finishing up matches from today's Foursomes. Here's where things stand on the match board:

|USA 3up thru 9||Jason Day & Graham DeLaet||Phil Mickelson & Keegan Bradley|
|INTL 3up thru 9||Ernie Els & Brendon de Jonge||Hunter Mahan & Bill Haas|
