2013 Presidents Cup results: Team USA leads by 1 point, 4 matches left to finish

Allan Henry-USA TODAY Sports

A long rain delay ensured an unresolved Friday Foursomes, with both sides adding one point and four matches left to finish.

Play has been called on Friday at the 2013 Presidents Cup, with four of six matches still incomplete. A lengthy rain delay hit Muirfield Village for the second straight day, but this one drenched the course for a couple hours and made finishing Friday night impossible, even under the Foursomes format that sets a rapid pace. Team USA currently leads 4.5 to 3.5, and each side picked up a point before darkness fell.

Phil MIckelson and Keegan Bradley rediscovered their form from last year's Ryder Cup, blitzing the International duo of Jason Day and Graham DeLaet in the all-important lead-off match. Mickelson and Bradley fell behind a hole early, but then won seven of eight during an incredible run to pick up a point before darkness. Mickelson and Bradley were having a blast all day, much like at Medinah last fall. It was a welcome sight following their lackluster loss yesterday.

The dynamic American pair would close it out on the 15th green, sealing a 4&3 win. But Brendon de Jonge and Ernie Els closed out their match just moments later on the same green to keep the Internationals' deficit at one point.

It's certainly an improved showing for the International side under this format, the most difficult alternating shot style. Traditionally, the Internationals have been blown out during Foursomes, the margin always the difference in recent USA Presidents Cup titles.

But if things continue, the two sides will split the overall six session points Saturday morning. Two of the best USA teams from Thursday are on track to add two more points, including Tiger Woods and Matt Kuchar. They continued their unbeatable pace, even against a Charl Schwartzel/Louis Oosthuizen team that was on fire early. Woods and Kuchar went out in 30 on the front nine at Muirfield, which is a ridiculous score in Foursomes. Tiger's full game is working right now, and Kuchar has been the perfect partner. The putter, in particular, has been on point for the No. 1 player in the world.

Here's where things stand on the match board, with four more matches resuming at 7:35 a.m. ET on Saturday. It will be an enormous but long day with those four points still up for grabs, and then 10 more points spread out over two more sessions.
