The early odds for the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship are out and Tiger Woods is the betting favorite.
Tiger Woods hasn't made it past the second round of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship since 2008, but that didn't stop odds makers from installing him as the favorite in the event this year.
Woods, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, is currently the favorite at 10/1, according to the latest odds from Bovada. Rory McIlroy, the No. 1 seed, is just behind Woods at 12/1. Charl Schwartzel, Ian Poulter and Luke Donald round out the top five with all three currently set at 16/1. Poulter may be one of the best bets in the tournament, thanks to his long history of success in match play events. He won the 2010 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship and has had tremendous success in the Ryder Cup.
Defending champion Hunter Mahan is one of four players just behind the leaders at 22/1. Mahan is joined by Adam Scott, Louis Oosthuizen and Webb Simpson. Among other notable players, Bubba Watson is a 33/1 favorite, Matt Kuchar has 35/1 odds and Rickie Fowler is pegged as 55/1.
The field is broken up into four brackets. Woods is a 3/1 favorite to win the Gary Player bracket with Mahan, Lee Westwood and Simpson all 8/1. McIlroy is 4/1 in the Bobby Jones bracket with Schwartzel just behind at 11/2. Donald at 9/2 and Poulter at 6/1 have the best odds in the Sam Snead bracket while Oosthuizen is a 6/1 favorite in the Ben Hogan bracket.
Woods currently have -230 odds in his first round match against Charles Howell III. McIlroy is a -250 favorite against Shane Lowry with Donald, Oosthuizen and Poulter also -250 in the first round.
