The below photo of Matt Kuchar gives you an idea of how pleasant the conditions are in Arizona right now.
The weather conditions in Tucson were supposed to improve after the chaos caused by multiple snowstorms on Wednesday. But Sunday's semifinals and finals are being played in temperatures that are, at their best, in the low 40s. The final four matches went off at dawn, with temperatures in the 30s and the wind whipping across the Dove Mountain course.
It didn't appear to be a fun experience for all involved. A glimpse of what finalist Matt Kuchar was wearing as he went to the 1st tee for the finals should give you an idea of how pleasant things are out there:
The windy and frigid conditions also had a dramatic affect on the quality of play, as both Jason Day and Ian Poulter did not make a single birdie in their semifinal matches, while Kuchar was also over par. Hunter Mahan, who's attempting to become the second player to win this event in consecutive years, was the outlier and played his morning round in 3-under (thru 15 holes).
The sun may be out but the wind is not relenting for the finals and consolation match. NBC even showed the grounds crew watering, or "syringing" the greens to add some additional stick in case the winds started blowing balls off the greens.
The average February temperature in the area is estimated at 71 degrees, but today's conditions combined with the disaster on Wednesday might put Dove Mountain's spot in the Tour's annual rota in jeopardy.
