Camilio Villegas grabbed the Thursday lead with a strong finish to his round.
Camilo Villegas leads on the first day of action at the 2013 Honda Classic. The Colombian finished at 6-under-par 64 after an eagle on the 18th hole. That followed a birdie on 17, and a total of 5-under on the back-nine.
Branden Grace, Graham DeLaet, and Ben Kohles are tied for the second at 5-under. DeLaet surged to the top of the leaderboard with four consecutive birdies to end the round, while Grace used a 4-under front-nine to finish at 65.
Ben Kohles has the best shot of any of the remaining golfers to grab the lead after Round 1 He is still playing, and is currently on hole 12. Robert Streb is close behind at 3-under on the 12th.
Americans Sean O'Hair and Dustin Johnson are part of a large contingent of golfers tied for third at 4-under. Like DeLaet, Johnson finished out the round strong with three birdies in his last four holes. The one blemish in that stretch was a bogey on 16. O'Hair had a more consistent day, avoiding any bogeys.
Tiger Woods was grouped with Johnson to begin the tournament, and started strong with birdies on hole Nos. 3 and 7, but stumbled on the back-nine with two bogeys to finish at even for the Round 1. Rory McIlroy is among the golfers still playing on Thursday. He is 1-under with three holes to go. McIlroy's groupmate Ernie Els finished two shots worse at 1-over.
