The second round of the 2013 Shell Houston Open is complete and Steve Wheatcroft will head into the weekend with a one-stroke lead.
Wheatcroft, who shot a second straight 67, sits at 10-under with a one stroke lead over Jason Kokrak and D.A. Points who are tied for second at 9-under. After an up-and-down round on Thursday, Wheatcroft was steady on Friday, finishing with five birdies and 13 pars. Points was the leader after a first round 64, but he dropped two spots after shooting a 71 on Friday.
Stewart Cink jumped all the way into a tie for fourth after shooting a second-round low 66 on Friday. Cink finished the round with six birdies and 12 pars, moving up 39 spots on the leaderboard. While Cink rose up the leaderboard, a few players were not as fortunate. John Rollins opened the tournament with a first-round 65, but dropped seven spots after shooting a 74 on Friday.
After not playing well in the opening round, Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy had slightly more success on Friday. Both finished the day in a tie for 54th place at 1-under and just one stroke ahead of the cut line.
