Tiger Woods surges into 2nd place at 2013 Masters

Andrew Redington

Tiger Woods is playing well on Friday and a strong close to the front nine has him in a tie for second place.

Tiger Woods is making a move up the leaderboard at Augusta National as, at 3-under through nine holes, he's now 5-under for the tournament and tied for second place.

Woods started slowly, but came on strong as he finished his front nine. After birdies at No. 5 and No. 7, Woods moved to 3-under on the round with a tap-in birdie at No. 8. He drove the par-5 eighth hole in two, with his second shot leaving roughly a 20-foot eagle putt. His putt missed to the right, but left a short tap in for his third birdie of the day.

As he has done all day, Woods found the fairway with his tee shot on No. 9 although he needed a fortunate kick off a tree to do it. He hit another green in regulation as his approach shot landed in the middle of the green. Woods finished his front nine with a two-putt par to go out in 33.

Accuracy off the tee has been a major reason for Woods' early success on Friday. Dating back to his first round and through nine holes on Friday, Woods had hit 11 straight fairways. Woods is 3-under so far, tied for the lowest mark of the day.
