Tiger Woods moves to 3-under, 3 strokes back

USA TODAY Sports

Tiger Woods hasn't played exceptionally well on Saturday, but a recent string of birdies has him just three-strokes back of the leaders.

After some issues early in his round, Tiger Woods is beginning to make a move up the leaderboard as he closes out his third round at Augusta National.

Following back-to-back birdies at No. 12 and No. 13, Woods had an opportunity to make it three-straight at No. 14. He birdie putt missed, however, forcing him to settle for par as he headed to the par-5 15th. Woods ran into trouble on No. 15 on Friday when his approach shot hit the flagstick and caromed into the water hazard. He went on to make a bogey, but was later accessed a two-stroke penalty for taking an illegal drop.

Woods successfully avoided any flagstick issues on Saturday, drilling an iron into the green on his second shot to set up an eagle putt. His eagle try rolled just off the left edge of the cup. Woods tapped in the birdie putt, which moved him into a tie for eighth place at 3-under overall.

He ran into some trouble on No. 16 when his tee shot at the par-3 came up short and landed in a green-side bunker. His bunker shot rolled past the hole leaving a five-foot putt to save par. Woods buried the putt to remain at 3-under heading into No. 17.

With Woods' recent surge and previous leader Angel Cabrera bogeying No. 12, Woods is currently three strokes off the lead.
