2013 Masters results: Adam Scott defeats Angel Cabrera in playoff at Augusta

Andrew Redington

Adam Scott becomes the first Australian to win the Masters in a thrilling playoff victory.

For the second straight year, the Masters ended in a playoff, with the winning score coming in at 9-under. It was pushed to that mark in the final 10 minutes of the tournament, as both Adam Scott and Angel Cabrera pulled off back-to-back incredible shots at the 18th green.

Playing in the second-to-last group, Scott's came first, on an incredible putt from the right side of the green. The Aussie put the putt of the left side of the hole and the ball went slightly around the lip to drop in for what looked like the Masters victory. Scott and his caddie, Stevie Williams, erupted in celebration, thinking the Aussie was on the verge of becoming the first player ever from down under to win at Augusta.

But that didn't last long, as Cabrera struck the best approach shot on No. 18 all day, dropping his ball right on top of the flagstick and putting it inside five feet. The Argentinian, who won it in a playoff in 2009, quickly cleaned up his birdie to match Scott at 9-under and force the playoff.

From there, it would go to No. 10, the second playoff hole after both played the 18th in nearly identical fashion. But on No. 10, Scott put his birdie putt right in the center of the hole to officially break the Australian curse and win his first career major.

Down the leaderboard from Scott and Cabrera was Tiger Woods, who finished inside the top six for the sixth time since his last win in 2005. Tiger need to shoot 66 on Sunday in order to get in the playoff, but a slow start on the front nine washed away his chances and kept his round in the 70s for the fourth straight day. Ahead of Tiger was Aussie Jason Day, who finish solo third. Here's the complete final leaderboard from Augusta:
