Four birdies in his first five holes quickly put Charley Hoffman out in front Saturday, and he didn't relinquish the lead. Escaping the third round without a bogey, he held a two-stroke lead over the rest of the field in the 2013 RBC Heritage. His score of 66 matched his first-round total and was the second-best score of the day on Saturday.
The best score of the day belonged to Webb Simpson, who also finished without a bogey in the round, knocking in a total of six birdies to finish with a 65 on his scorecard. The performance moved Simpson 11 spots up the leaderboard into sole possession of second, two strokes behind Hoffman.
After Friday's second round there was a three-way tie for the tournament lead, with Hoffman sharing the top spot with Kevin Streelman and Steve LeBrun. Streelman stayed in contention with a score of 69 that left him in third, but LeBrun struggled with a stretch of three consecutive bogeys that dropped him into an eight-way tie for sixth, five strokes off the lead.
Brendon de Jonge of Zimbabwe and Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland enter the final round tied for the fourth spot behind three Americans, four strokes behind Hoffman for the lead.
