The field has finally been cut at the 2013 U.S. Open, and 73 players made it through to the final two rounds at Merion Golf Club. The USGA has been playing catch-up ever since a derecho line of storms moved through the Philadelphia area on Thursday less than two hours into the tournament. That three-plus hour delay forced back-to-back 7:15 a.m. ET restarts and sunup to sundown golf for two days until the 156-man field was eventually able to complete 36 holes right around 10 a.m. Saturday.
Mike Davis of the USGA indicated on Friday that the ultimate desire is to send the entire field off No. 1 in twosomes on Sunday. In order to absolutely ensure they have that scenario set for Sunday's primetime broadcast, the USGA will send Saturday's groups off in threesomes again on split tees, No. 1 and No. 11, at Merion's East Course. The start of the third round and those tee times will begin at 12:15 p.m. ET.
For the third straight round, and fourth straight day given that they practiced together this week, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy will play in the same group. The top two players in the world are unrelenting with the PDA, and now they've ditched No. 3 in the world Adam Scott, who will be replaced by Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano. The threesome will head out at 1:56 p.m., now just four shots back of the leaders after watching the Friday afternoon carnage.

Those leaders, Phil Mickelson and Billy Horschel, will go off No. 1 in the final group of the day at 2:40 p.m. Luke Donald, who held the lead at 4-under in two separate rounds Friday morning, will join Mickelson and Horschel to anchor Saturday afternoon's play at Merion. Mickelson canned his only birdie with his last putt of the day in the gloaming on No. 18 Friday night, moving back to 1-under to join Horschel as the only players in the red. It's likely that leading number sticks right around even-par, with almost every golfer through to the weekend still with a shot given the 36-hole battle of attrition that awaits.
NBC will have the broadcast all day, starting at noon and running until 7:30 or the conclusion of play. Here's the complete tee sheet for Saturday's third round:
