Michael Cohen

Low scores are abound early at TPC Deere Run.

Zach Johnson and Camilo Villegas each shot first-round 64s to take an early lead Thursday at the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.

Johnson made seven birdies without a bogey in his opening round, while Villegas needed an extra birdie to offset a bogey at the par-4 ninth hole.

Brendon de Jonge, Matt Bettencourt and Daniel Summerhays were each in the clubhouse Thursday one shot back with 6-under 65s at the par-71 course Thursday.

Several golfers were still out on the course with promising outlooks for their opening rounds. Chad Campbell opened his round on the back nine with an impressive run of eagle-birdie-birdie and is currently 4-under through four holes. Boo Weekley was 4-under through eight holes.
