British Open 2013 cut line: Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose among the notables missing the cut

Rose won't claim back-to-back major titles while McIlroy's slump continued with another missed cut.

The second round of the British Open is in the books, but a few notable players won't be hanging around for the weekend after a rough go of things during the first two rounds. Rory McIlroy and reigning U.S. Open champion Justin Rose and are among the players headed home early as both missed the cut.

Muirfield played more difficult as the day went on, with the projected cut line increasing throughout the second round. It eventually settled at 9-over, with 84 players making it to the weekend. Boo Weekley, Geoff Ogilvy and KJ Choi were among the players at 8-over who just made it clear.

Marc Leishman and Bill Haas were not as fortunate, with both finishing the second round at 9-over. Rose, Jim Furyk and Luke Donald missed the cut by two strokes each. Furyk and Donald played better on Friday but were unable to overcome poor first rounds. Donald has a history of poor starts in majors and it cost him again this week. He shot a 1-over 72 on Friday, but missed the cut after shooting an 80 in the opening round.

McIlroy's tough season continued, missing the cut at 12-over. He shot a 4-over 75 on Friday but had too much ground to make up after a 79 on Thursday. With only the PGA Championship left, McIlroy's best finish in a major this season is a tie for 25th place at The Masters.

Rickie Fowler and Billy Horschel were in contention on Sunday at the U.S. Open, but neither player will be a factor this weekend. Fowler shot a 76 to finish at 12-over, while Horschel's 80 on Friday caused him to miss the cut. Here are a few of the notable players who finished on the edge of the cut line:
