2013 British Open results: Tiger Woods finishes 5 shots back of winner Phil Mickelson

Stuart Franklin

After a brutal week at Muirfield, only one player is left under par: 2013 British Open champion Phil Mickelson.

It was another Sunday disappointment for Tiger Woods at a major championship, as the world's No. 1 player never made a run at the British Open. Muirfield continued to play difficult on Sunday, but Tiger was shaky in multiple areas of his game, missing several putts early, going wayward off the tee, and sending chips well past the hole. Woods finished with a 3-over round of 74. He was over par in both weekend rounds, a troubling trend that's wiped away several chances at contention over the past two years. The ugliness started early on Sunday, when he missed a relatively easy flat five-footer at the opening hole:

Woods would never get on track after that, sputtering to a sixth-place finish. It's his third finish in the last five majors inside the top 10.

The 2-over finish for Woods was a good five shots clear of the lead, set by Phil Mickelson. The Hall-of-Fame lefty carded what may be the round of his life, a 5-under 66 to become the only player under-par for the Championship. Mickelson came in with a blistering 32 on the back nine, picking up birdies on four of the last six holes. That stretch turned what had been a tight Sunday leaderboard into a runaway three-shot victory. It was an incredible rebound performance for Mickelson, who finished second for the sixth time in his career last month at the U.S. Open -- a result he called one of the most "heartbreaking" days of his career.

Following Phil in second place was Henrik Stenson, the only other player in the field not to finish over par. Matthew Fitzpatrick, who looks 14-years-old but is a freshman at Northwestern, earned low amateur honors at 10-over. Here are the complete results from the 2013 Open Championship:
