Greenbrier Classic 2013 scores: Tommy Gainey, Johnson Wagner lead the field

Chris Trotman

Tommy Gainey and Johnson Wagner are at least two strokes ahead of the rest of the field at the 2013 Greenbrier Classic. Phil Mickelson, meanwhile, will need to make a significant comeback if he hopes to make the cut after Friday.

Tommy Gainey and Johnson Wagner are tied atop the leaderboard at the 2013 Greenbrier Classic after Day 1. Both men shot 8-under to take two-stroke leads over Webb Simpson and Jin Park, both at 6-under, heading into Friday.

Wagner was on pace to shoot sub-60 on Thursday, making eagle on No. 12 to drop his score to 8-under on the day. He made par on his final six holes to tie Gainey, however. Neither of the leaders bogeyed any of their 36 combined holes played.

Phil Mickelson was hoping to bounce back from a heartbreaking second-place finish at the 2013 U.S. Open, but he is currently well off the pace at 4-over. That puts him in danger of missing the cut if he can't make a big comeback Friday. Mickelson's day blew up with a triple-bogey on No. 17 and a bogey on No. 18.

Below is the current Top 10 heading into Friday. Head over to for a full leaderboard.

t1) Tommy Gainey, 8-under
t1) Johnson Wagner, 8-under
t3) Webb Simpson, 6-under
t3) Jin Park, 6-under
t5) Daniel Summerhays, 5-under
t5) Neal Lancaster, 5-under
t5) Tag Ridings, 5-under
t5) Steven Bowditch, 5-under
t9) 12 players tied at 4-under
