Phil Mickelson is still seven shots off the lead, but he rebounded well from an early double bogey and has a chance to make up the ground over the final nine holes.
A bogey at No. 3 and a double at No. 4 dropped Mickelson to 3-over through four holes. He was able to stop the bleeding quickly, however, hitting the fairway for the first time on No. 5 and recording his first green in regulation. While he began to settle in, Mickelson was still not sharp, especially with his approach shots. He had several lengthy birdie putts, coming away with par on No. 5 through No. 8.
Mickelson's approach shot on No. 9 was his best of the day and he was finally able to capitalize with his first birdie of the day. He's still well off the lead, but if he's able to pick up another shot or two on the final nine holes, he won't have nearly as much ground to make up over the final three rounds.
Here is a closer look at his round thus far.
