Zach Johnson's win at the 2013 BMW Championship on Monday earned him a $1.44 million chunk of the purse worth a total of $8 million.
Johnson shot a 6-under in Monday's final round to finish at 16-under and overcame Jim Furyk's lead and Nick Watney's 7-under on the day. Watney finished second at 14-under, and Furyk came in third place at 13-under.
Watney is set to take home around $864,000 and Furyk earned $544,000 after failing to win, despite becoming the sixth player to ever shoot a 59 in a single round -- Furyk shot a 59 in the event's second round.
Heading into the tournament, Furyk had earned $2.49 million this year, which ranked him 22nd in the PGA. Johnson was just behind Furyk in the rankings having earned $2.34 million. Tiger Woods, who finished in 11th place at 9-under, came into the tournament leading the PGA with $8.23 million in winnings.
Last year, it was the young upstart, Rory McIlroy, taking home the most money by winning the event.
Things weren't going as well for McIlroy in 2013. He opened with rounds of 78 and 77 to put him on the outside looking in. Though he shot 68 in each of the last two rounds, McIlroy was far from the finish many expected of him heading into this season. At the beginning of the BMW Championship, McIlroy was 36th in earnings this year.
