Zach Johnson shot a final round of 65 to finish 16-under to win the 2013 BMW Championship on Monday. Overcoming Jim Furyk, who led with 13-under after three rounds, Johnson's 6-under at the Conway Farms Golf Club was the second-best final round. Fellow American Nick Watney shot 7-under on Monday to finish in second place at 14-under.
Johnson started the final round at 10-under and three shots behind Furyk, but he worked his way up the board with three birdies on the front nine and three more on the back nine, including back-to-back ones on holes 16 and 17. Johnson now sits at fourth place in the FedEx Cup standings.
Furyk finished in third place at 13-under and shot an even-par 71 in his final round.
Furyk shot par on eight of his front nine holes and birdied one. But the pressure built behind Furyk, and it coincided with an erratic back nine that included two birdies and three bogeys. In the second round of the event, Furyk became the sixth player in PGA history to shoot a round of 59. And in the loss, he becomes the third of those players to not come out on top.
The win at the par 71, 7,149-yard course earned Johnson a $1.44 million share of the $8 million purse. It's his 10th win on the PGA tour.
Jason Day, Luke Donald and Hunter Mahan finished tied for fourth place at 11-under.
