FedEx Cup standings 2013: Tiger Woods starts 3rd playoff event in 2nd place

Sam Greenwood

For the first time this postseason, Tiger starts the week out of the top spot.

After a week off, the PGA Tour returns this weekend to the Chicago area for the BMW Championship, the third leg of the 2013 FedExCup Playoffs. The BMW is typically held in the Chicagoland region, but went south last year to Indianapolis to make room for the Ryder Cup at Medinah later that month. This year, it returns to Illinois but is at a new venue for this event, Conway Farms. It's a relatively newer club, north of the city in Lake Forest and the wind could have an impact on the scores this week.

For the first time this 2013 postseason, Tiger Woods will not start the week in first place. Woods fell out of the top spot in Boston as the hottest player in the world, Henrik Stenson, stormed to a Labor Day victory and No. 1 in the FedExCup standings. This week's cut down will be the largest of the postseason, as the field is trimmed from 70 players to the final 30 for the TOUR Championship in Atlanta. That's the most exclusive field in golf, and some of the 70 players towards the bottom of the standings have the slimmest hopes of making it through and will be playing for pride and a paycheck this week.
