Rory McIlroy is coming off a rough year, but he could get 2014 off to an excellent start if he continues to play well at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship. McIlroy is tied for fourth place, two strokes off the lead as the tournament heads for the weekend.
McIlroy shot a 67 in the second round and is 7-under for the tournament. He had more success during the first two rounds than some of the other notable names, including Phil Mickelson. Mickelson managed to make the cut, but is tied for 43rd place at 1-under. At even-par, Sergio Garcia just snuck in under the 1-over cut line. Gargia will play in the second group, teeing off at 10:30 p.m. ET Friday night. Mickelson will tee off a few groups later, hitting the course at 12:05 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Viewers in the United States won't be able to watch Mickelson and Garcia play in the third round. They will, however, be able to see most of McIlroy's round if they are willing to stay awake through the early morning. Golf Channel's live coverage will begin at 4 a.m. and continue until 8 a.m. McIlroy is scheduled to tee off at 3:33 a.m. Those choosing to sleep, can watch a replay on Golf Channel at 10:30 a.m.
Here is the full tee sheet for the third round. Play will begin late Friday night in the Eastern time zone of the United States and continue well into Saturday morning.
