Tiger tanks at Torrey: Woods matches 2nd-worst score ever as a professional

Where Tiger’s 79 at Torrey ranks on the roster of his all-time stink-er-oos.

Tiger Woods, as SB Nation’s Brendan Porath described on Saturday, imploded in stunning fashion in the third round of the 2014 Farmers Insurance Open. While it was shocking to watch Tiger come apart on a Torrey Pines track he has owned over the years, it wasn’t that long ago that the world No. 1 carded the same 7-over 79; in fact, it was just last year at Jack Nicklaus’ Muirfield Village Golf Club. As he'd reveal later, however, Woods was dealing with an elbow injury during last year's Memorial, an injury he kept "hidden" until it flared up at Merion and the U.S. Open.

Tiger Woods' highest 18-hole scores as a professional:

The 9-over stretch in seven holes on Saturday was a surreal run of catastrophe for Woods, who simply could not make a par. After blasting the field here last year, the unraveling and MC were a startling beginning to the 2014 season, which resumes this week overseas at the Dubai Desert Classic.
