Miguel Angel Jimenez is just as famous for his quirky warm-up stretching routine as he is for his golf. Those spastic stretches and the Mechanic's love of cigars, Rioja wine, and his ability to never look like he cares too much make him one of the most enjoyable golfers on the planet. His profile last year jumped significantly, thanks in large part to his run at the British Open. We had ESPN dubbing a "Most Interesting Golfer in the World" montage for Miguel, cigar smoking via chopsticks during the Euro Tour's stop in Shanghai, and more stretching, always with the stretching.
Jimenez is now 50 years old, and although he's getting up there, he's still contending regularly with on the most competitive tours and at the top events. That he can still hang with the young bombers is evidenced by the fact that he's playing in the WGC-Accenture Match Play event this week, which grants invites only to the top 64 players in the world.
The match play event is in Tucson, and so while Jimenez was over stateside, he decided to drop by the Arizona headquarters of Ping, his longtime equipment sponsor. Jimenez, who embraces his role as one of the funnier dudes who does not give a shit what you think, decided to lead some Ping staffers through his patented exercise routine. Fortunately, there were cameras there to catch it (via Ping's YouTube channel)
The stretching is nice, but the biggest takeaway from this diversionary exercise was the Mechanic's attempt at dancing as the video came to a wrap:
Never change, Miguel. Thanks for coming to Arizona and adding to our growing library of Miguel Angel Jimenez GIFs.
