Masters leaderboard 2014: Miguel Angel Jimenez in the lead

Harry How

The most interesting man in golf is once again thriving in the first round of the Masters.

The first round of a major championship is underway, which means Miguel Angel Jimenez is in the hunt. Jimenez has shot in the 60s in the first round of a major in six of his last eight appearances, according to Justin Ray of ESPN, and he is well on his way to making it seven of nine. Jimenez is currently 4-under and alone in first place.

The Mechanic played the front nine as well as any player thus far, notching four birdies to make the turn in 32. That included a stretch of three birdies in four holes to close the front nine. With a par at No. 10, Jimenez heads into Amen Corner one stroke ahead of the field.

The top of the leaderboard is loaded with big names, including defending champion Adam Scott. Scott is 3-under through eight holes, tied for second place with Brandt Snedeker and Steve Stricker. Scott got his round off to an excellent start with a birdie at No. 1. He added another birdie at No. 6 and moved to 3-under with a birdie at No. 8.

Jonas Blixt was in the lead at 4-under at one point, but bogeys at No. 15 and No. 18 dropped him to 2-under. He's currently tied with Kevin Stadler in the clubhouse. Rory McIlroy is among a host of players tied for ninth place at 1-under. McIlroy birdied two holes early, but dropped a shot with a bogey on the par-5 eighth hole.
