UPDATE: A few notable names are headed home early as Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia fail to make the cut at The Masters.
The majority of the field has already turned in their second-round scorecards and for many, that will be their last act of the 2014 Masters. The current cut line is sitting at 4-over and unless multiple players have major issues coming in, that is where it will stay.
There are currently 53 players at 4-over or better with the top 50, including ties, making the cut. If four players falter coming in and drop a stroke or two, the cut could move to 5-over, but that appears unlikely at this point. Webb Simpson and Charl Schwartzel are both 4-over with holes to play. Thorbjorn Olesen is 3-over and still on the course. There are a few other players at 2-over, but they would need to drop at least three strokes.
Instead, the cut line is likely to stay at 4-over with Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, Luke Donald and Ernie Els just missing at 5-over. Dustin Johnson, Graeme McDowell, Jason Dufner and Keegan Bradley are also among the players who will miss the cut. Patrick Reed and Matthew Fitzpatrick are both 5-over and on the course; they'll likely need to pick up a shot if they are going to stick around.
With the cut line as tight as it is, it will be easy to look back at a missed opportunity or two that could have cost a player. For Mickelson, a pair of triple bogeys -- one on Thursday and another on Friday -- likely cost him to miss the Masters cut for the first time since 1997. For Luke Donald, a fan spotting him ground his club in the bunker and the ensuing two-stroke penalty will send him home.
Here's a look at the players hovering around the cut line and those who are headed home.
