2014 Shell Houston Open streaming: How to watch online, TV coverage and more

Scott Halleran

The Shell Houston open is set for an entertaining weekend with big names galore near the top. Sergio Garcia and Matt Kuchar are set to go head-to-head for the lead on Saturday.

The Shell Houston Open may be overlooked this week in anticipation of the Masters next week, but those who don't pay attention might miss out on one of the better tournaments of the year thus far. Some excellent golf was played during the first two rounds with several players dipping well into the red. Sergio Garcia headlines the leaderboard at 12-under, but he's just one of a few notable names playing well. With five hours of coverage on tap and a live stream, viewers will have the opportunity to watch the best in the world round their games into form.

Golf Channel and NBC will combine on television coverage with the broadcast set to begin on Golf Channel at 1 p.m. ET. It will remain there until 3 p.m. when NBC will take over for the final three hours of coverage. Viewers will be able to follow the third round live online thanks to a simulcast from NBC LiveExtra.

In addition to watching some high-level golf on display, Saturday could prove to be an important one for the Masters next week. A few players, like Garcia, Kuchar and others, are attempting to maintain the form that was on display during the first two rounds. Phil Mickelson played well, although the status of the pulled muscle he suffered last week is likely more of the focus than his score. Mickelson didn't appear to have any issues during on Thursday or Friday, outside of doing some extra stretching. If that continues on Saturday and Sunday, he'll take his place among the favorites to win at Augusta.

Others like Rory McIlory and Rickie Fowler are well off the lead, but rounds in the low 60s could make them a factor on Sunday as well. In addition to the television and online coverage, viewers will also be able to follow the action on PGA Tour Radio from noon to 6 p.m.

UPDATE: Tee times were moved up on Saturday to avoid inclement weather approaching the Houston area. As such, Golf Channel and NBC had adjusted their third round coverage schedule. All TV coverage will now be shown on a tape delay, but you can watch the entire third round live via their streaming service.
