Jason Dufner's tee time at The Players Championship on Friday is set for 1:18 p.m., and it's a good thing he's out in the afternoon wave because last year's PGA champion had a late night following the NFL Draft. Dufner's well-known for his Auburn boosterism, but he's also a big Cleveland sports fan after spending a stretch of his childhood in Northeast Ohio (that rare WDE-CLE mix). The Browns are his team, and while he tweets about them less than Auburn, their movements on Thursday night at the NFL Draft dominated his timeline.
Before the Browns selected Johnny Manziel, they traded twice and passed once on the Texas A&M quarterback. It was an emotional ping-pong for Cleveland fans, who bounced from anticipation to anger to dejection to elation in less than two hours. Dufner, for his part, tweeted this photoshop NINE TIMES in that span as the possibility of Manziel coming to Cleveland waxed and waned.
You know it, get ready for it!!! pic.twitter.com/z5lK3RKEi9— Jason Dufner (@JasonDufner) May 9, 2014
He started the evening with that, then transitioned to confusion after a trade and tweeted his frustration to our Browns blog, Dawgs by Nature, after the team went with Justin Gilbert at No. 9 (all the while mixing in his thoughts on Jon Gruden's performance -- just like us!). In the end, the constant photoshop use worked out for Dufner. Once the pick was in, the Duf got, uh, a little excited.
To recap, the night started hopeful.
Then it turned confusing.
And then it became infuriating.
But ended with everyone happy again!
Oh, and he's also in the hunt at the PGA Tour's biggest event of the year. Duf is currently tied for 20th at 3-under, and will be out just after 1 p.m. with Patrick Reed and Luke Donald. That should give him time to be back in front of a TV just after 7 p.m. when the Browns make their first pick on Friday night near the top of the second round.
