2014 Greenbrier Classic scores: Billy Hurley III leads through 54 holes

Jon Durr

A few players made strong charges up the leaderboard, but Billy Hurley III was able to stay on top with a round of 67.

With scores going low at The Old White TPC on Saturday, it took red numbers to even keep pace with the leaders in the Greenbrier Classic. Billy Hurley III didn't card the round of the day, but his 3-under 67 was good enough to keep him in the lead. The round moved him to 12-under for the tournament and gave him a two-stroke lead heading into the final round.

Hurley didn't turn in a clean card like he did on Friday, but was able to offset his two bogeys with five birdies. The 32-year-old has never won on the PGA Tour and would become the 10th first-time winner this season if he holds on. To do that, he'll likely need another strong round with nine players within four shots of the lead. That includes Angel Cabrera, who will join Hurley in the final pairing on Sunday. A hot putter helped Cabrera net seven birdies on his way to a round of 64. At 10-under, he'll begin the final round two strokes back.

Kevin Chappell is in third place at 9-under following a round of 69, while seven players are at 8-under through 54 holes. That includes Steve Stricker, who shot a second straight 68. Players who weren't able to shoot in the 60s had trouble keeping pace, including Brice Garnett. He shot a 72 on Saturday, dropping him from fifth place to a tie for 30th. John Daly made the initial cut on Friday but missed the secondary cut at 1-over.
