Buster Posey isn't new to baseball fans. For the people that have been following all year long, he's been a household name for months. Then there are people like me, for whom last night's Phillies-Giants was (seriously) the first baseball game they've seen all year.
And... OHMYGOD HE'S BASEBALL JESUS.
Remember when Stephen Strasburg debuted earlier this year? Sportswriters lost their mind. One Chinese outlet said, "Stephen Strasburg has set foot on a brilliant highway when he struck out 14 batters and 100-mph fastballs in his Major League Baseball debut in Washington." And... Well, if Chinese writers aren't scribbling broken english about Buster Posey today, then they should be.
He had four hits in last night's genuinely thrilling baseball game, including a ridiculous at-bat against Roy Oswalt in the ninth that ultimately set up the game-winning run. He's just... I mean, look at the babyface. He's so cute. But so fierce! And he's also just a rookie, meaning we're only scratching the surface for what he could do. Is it possible to buy stock in Buster Posey?
Oh, there was also that play at the plate... Some outstanding photos after the jump.
Any one of these photos could have replaced the one above as the Official SB Nation Photo Of The Day™, but quite frankly, they just weren't dreamy enough. Still pretty cool though:
