Defending champion Milton, a team that's nationally ranked in the top five of most polls, seeks to defend its Class AAAAA title in Georgia on Friday against Norcross at the Gwinnett Place Arena.
It is a rematch of a controversial quarterfinal played in 2010, when Milton won 52-51. Julian Royal, a 6-foot-9 forward who has signed with Georgia Tech, was fouled at the buzzer and made two free throws for the win.
Milton (29-2) has won 19 straight games. It defeated Tift County 75-53 on Friday, when. Jordan Loyd, who has signed with Furman, scored 27 points. Other top Milton players are guards Dai-Jon Parker (signed with Vanderbilt) and Shannon Scott (Ohio State).
Norcross (23-9) has won 16 straight after a rough start. Chris Bolden, a guard committed to Miami, scored 26 points in a 70-61 semifinal victory over Valdosta. Norcross won state titles in 2006, 2007 and 2008 with current NBA players Al-Farouq Aminu and Gani Lawal.
In the AAAA final Friday, Miller Grove plays Rockdale County. Miller Grove is the two-time champion and beat Milton in December.
