Maryland Finals: Dunbar Throttles Williamsport For 1A Title

Dunbar's heavy-handed run through the Maryland Class 1A state championships continued on Saturday afternoon at the Comcast Center in College Park with a 64-43 victory over Williamsport and back-to-back state titles.

Led by senior forward Devonte Wallace with 23 points and 10 rebounds, as well as 15 points from junior forward Aaron Parham, Dunbar dominated as it had throughout the entire tournament - winning by an average of 25 points in its six tournament games.

Dunbar (24-3) took a 19-12 lead in the first quarter on a late 9-0 run to create separation.

Dunbar led 31-23 at halftime and a19-9 run in the third quarter keyed by Wallace, who was active on both ends with four assists and three steals.

Williamsport (23-4), a school looking for its first state title in 63 years, simply could not keep pace.

Called the "most storied team in public schools ever" before the the game by Williamsport head coach Scott Mowbray, Baltimore's Dunbar now has 13 championships in school history, including 11 won during a 15-year stretch starting in 1993.

,aided by a defense that held Williamsport to 36% shooting from the field.

Williamsport, a town of 2,200 people in northwestern Maryland, was held to 36% shooting by Dunbar.

Brandon McCauley led Williamsport with 13 points in the losing effort.
