Ron Baker scored 26 points and made the game-winning layup with 2.6 seconds left in Scott City's 55-53 victory over Minneapolis on Saturday in the Kansas Class 3A final in Hutchinson.
Scott City let a nine-point lead in the second half get away before Baker's heroics.
Minneapolis (23-3) got 23 points from Grayson George before he fouled out with two minutes left. Without George, Minneapolis still rallied as Casy Arganbright made a pair of 3-pointers to tie the game at 53 with 22 seconds left.
But Baker's final bucket ended a stellar final high school game for the senior. Baker also had 11 rebounds and three blocked shots.
Scott City (25-1) beat two-time defending champion Collegiate of Wichita in the semifinals. Baker scored 20 points and had nine rebounds in that victory. Scott City's only loss was to a 6A team, Dodge City.l
this is Scott City's first state title since 2006, when the western Kansas school won 4A.
