Brotherly Blasts

USA TODAY Sports

I worry that maybe not's been made enough of this ...

Tuesday night at ridiculously cold Coors Field, B.J. Upton and Justin Upton did something that hadn't been done since before World War II; put another way, they did something that's not been done while most of us have been alive:

The last time brothers hit back-to-back home runs? September 15, 1938, when Pirates Lloyd and Paul Waner accomplished the feat. Little Poison and Big Poison were teammates forever, but Little Poison wasn't much of a home-run hitter; in '38 he tied his career best with five round-trippers.

Meanwhile, we can expect a lot more of these Upton-Upton power combinations, assuming of course that B.J. comes out his spring slump and doesn't get dropped toward the bottom of the lineup.

As stirring as the Uptons were, and probably will be, there's likely nothing that will ever top Griffeys Jr. and Sr. going back to back, as they did in 1990 (video).
