#Hot Corner

Aaron Hicks and Vernon Wells and the future of Aaron Hicks

Hannah Foslien

Look, I'm not going to say this wasn't a really ... well, a really cool throw. You can see it four or five times, with a different call each time, and the announcers were obviously impressed.

Cool, right? But this isn't exactly one of the all-time greatest throws. It's fairly accurate and Hicks obviously has a strong arm. But his throw is a lot higher than most of the greatest throws we've seen. This isn't a laser beam; it's a cannon shell. Which is fine. Maybe the hang time is the most interesting thing about this. Maybe it was perfectly calculated to nail a runner who's not exactly Billy Hamilton out there.

Hicks has some impressive tools. He's got the cannon, and he's got some power. He's also struggling to cross the Mendoza Line. But making the occasional big throw or hitting the occasional big homer might help his confidence. Which seems important if the Twins are determined to keep running him out there. Which they probably should, as long as he's confident.
