MVP droughts, A.L. edition

Victor Decolongon

No New York Met has ever won the Most Valuable Player award. Is that better or worse than Cleveland's 60-year MVP drought? I'll leave that for you to decide, dear reader. In the meantime, this handy chart will tell you how long it's been since a player from each American League team won the MVP. If I were you, I'd commit this to memory before awards season.

Team Last MVP Player Notes
Tigers 2012 Miguel Cabrera Kind of a controversial vote. Maybe google it.
Rangers 2010 Josh Hamilton Putting his GM's job in jeopardy with .245/.303/.431 season.
Twins 2009 Joe Mauer Sorry I made fun of Twins for drafting Mauer instead of Mark Prior.
Red Sox 2008 Dustin Pedroia "Scherzer's starting? Good, that guy sucks." - Pedroia, probably.
Yankees 2007 Alex Rodriguez History's greatest monster.
Angels 2004 Vlad Guerrero Obvious Hall of Famer. Probably won't get in.
Athletics 2002 Miguel Tejada Playing Royce Clayton in upcoming biopic.
Mariners 2001 Ichiro Suzuki Like a 6-year-old's idea of what a baseball player is. In a good way.
Astros 1994 Jeff Bagwell Born on ...
White Sox 1994 Frank Thomas ... the same day.
Orioles 1991 Cal Ripken My favorite player of all time. Well, 10,000th favorite.
Blue Jays 1987 George Bell People forget narratives. Stats last forever.
Royals 1980 George Brett Hit 3 home runs off Catfish Hunter in '78 ALCS.
Indians 1953 Al Rosen Sixty years! Grady Sizemore's '06 is best season since, sez WAR.
Rays - - Who will be the Rays' first MVP, Longoria or Myers?
