Last year's Indianapolis 500 saw a record 37 lead changes. But through the early stages of the 2013 Indy 500, it appears that record will be broken.
Through 70 laps there have been 19 lead changes among six drivers with pole-sitter Ed Carpenter out front, followed by Marco Andretti and defending IndyCar Series champion Ryan Hunter-Reay.
As it has throughout the month of May, Chevrolet continues to be the dominant manufacturer holding the top six positions and nine of the top 10.
Defending 500 champion Dario Franchitti, who is looking for a record-tying fourth victory, has struggled through the onset. The Scotsman currently runs 14th.
There have been three cautions for separate incidents involving JR Hilderbrand, Sebastian Saavedra and IndyCar points leader Takuma Sato. Hildebrand and Saavedra are out of the race with damage, while Sato has continued on after spinning off of Turn 2.
