Barcelona put in a solid performance on Tuesday, comfortably defeating Alaves in Copa Del Rey.
Barcelona were expected to call up a number of B-team players for their Copa Del Rey match against Alaves, but opted to leave most of them with that squad for tomorrow's Segunda match. Though Lionel Messi and Xavi sat out, Barcelona fielded a very strong team, and the hosts were no match for them in a 3-0 Blaugrana victory.
It took a while for Barcelona to get on the board, but the match was effectively over when they did score. David Villa netted the opener shortly before the halftime break, hitting a composed finish on a brilliant pass by Andres Iniesta. The Barcelona playmaker added a goal of his own early in the second half, finishing with a first-time strike as Villa returned the favor with an assist.
Barcelona scored a third shortly afterwards, through Alexis Sanchez, but his goal was perhaps incorrectly disallowed for offside. Eventually, they did find a third goal, with Cesc Fabregas nodding in a Daniel Alves cross in the 89th minute.
