Charles Jock's Plans For The 800m: 'Break Everybody'

Stay connected with SB Nation

Charles Jock (great name) is aiming for a spot on Team USA when the 800m U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Track and Field begin Friday night with four first-round heats. It's expected to be one of the more competitive events in Eugene -- the event has nine runners under the Olympic "A" qualifying standard of 1 minute, 45.60 seconds, meaning there's a very real chance that someone will break 1:45 in Monday night's final and still not get a spot in London (only the top three advance).

Another reason it will be appointment viewing? Jock is going to going to try and "break everybody."

"My tactics are to take it out hard and try to break everybody," Jock said. "It won't be a slow, tactical race."

It's the U.S. trials, but that quote is even more fun when read in a Russian accent.

"I know I'm capable of running 1:44 when I have to," he said, "and for anybody to beat me, they're going to have to run even faster."

Running can be so awesome.
