U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps will compete in seven different events in London during the 2012 Olympics.
Michael Phelps won four events during the 2012 U.S. Olympic team trials in Omaha, Neb. over the past week and will be competing in seven different events in London. Phelps could have taken part in eight events in the London Games, but according to his coach Bob Bowman, Phelps will be dropping the 200m free, an event which Phelps won.
@MichaelPhelps will be removing the individual 200 freestyle from his Olympic program. This will give him a full slate of 7 events.

Bowman indicated that dropping the men's 200m free from Phelps' program will allow him to focus more of his energy for the Team USA relay races. Phelps is eligible to compete in the men's 100m fly, 200m fly, 200m IM, 400m IM, 200m freestyle, and all three relay events.
Phelps is entering the 2012 Games with 16 Olympic medals around his neck, including 14 golds.
