The first full day of tennis is in the books at the 2012 Olympics in London. The tournament is being held on the storied courts at Wimbledon, although the participants are being allowed to forgo the traditional "all-white" dress requirements in order to have easily-identifiable national pride.

Only one of three American men in singles competition were victorious on Saturday's Day 1. John Isner defeated Olivier Rochus of Belgium in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4. Ryan Harrison and Donald Young were not so lucky. In other men's singles action on Day 1, Roger Federer and Juan Martin del Potro also advanced.

In the women's singles competition on Saturday, American Christina McHale lost her opening match to Ana Ivanovic of Serbia in straight sets, 4-6, 5-7. Serena Williams was able to advance for the United States, however, continuing her strong run of late which included winning the championship at Wimbledon just a few weeks ago. Williams defeated Jelena Jankovic in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Other women's singles players to advance on Day 1 were Kim Clijsters of Belgium, Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic and Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark.

Other Americans in action on Saturday were a pair of men's doubles teams. Andy Roddick and John Isner lost in straight sets to Bruno Soares and Marcelo Melo of Brazil, 2-6, 4-6, while perennial doubles contenders Bob and Mike Bryan defeated Brazilians Andre Sa and Thomaz Bellucci in three sets, 7-6, 6-7, 6-3.
